I am Jonny
I am Jonny. Here’s a little bit more about me, my life and professional background, in order to get the most out of me.
Professional life CV headlines:
Served in the UK Armed Forces for 22 years combined service, in both the infantry and the Intelligence Corps’. Operational tours of Northern Ireland and Afghanistan, and postings to the Defence School of Intelligence as a senior instructor. Medically discharged in 2024 from the Army Reserves.
Worked for a decade in politics. From local councillors to Secretaries of State, I have run the elections of some of the best known names in UK politics. Expert at election law, campaigns and community engagement.
3rd sector experience with a specialism in Veterans’ Affairs. Have worked for both The Officers’ Association and Forces Employment Charity, as well as a project manager for the cross-industry campaign ‘Veterans Work’ at Deloitte. Leadership experience includes Managing Director role at Mission Community, a brand of Mission Motorsport- The Forces Motorsport Charity, and the co-founder of the UK Afghanistan Veterans Community, a service charity that I have helped form from scratch.
What I speak about with authenticity:
Afghanistan, culture, language and operational experiences, as well as the story of the 150,000 veterans who served there.
Recovery through sports, as an Invictus Games 2023 medallist, and Ambassador for Birmingham 2027. Also an athlete for the UK Armed Forces Para Snowsports Team, where I was awarded top disabled athlete at the Combined Services Championships in 2024.
UK politics. From serving at the grassroots to working with high-profile individuals, I have a story to tell. These days, I’m party-politically agnostic, and have become known as the ‘Veteran In Politics’ and host a podcast ‘Veterans In Politics’ interviewing 90+ politicians from around the globe, and am regularly asked to commentate on the subject.
Mental health and mental fitness. Through a lived experience of PTSD, anxiety and depression, I have come out of the other side and use this to inspire others and give hope. I have also changed UK government policy for access to treatment.
Veterans Affairs. I have been involved in the early days of the utilisation of the Armed Forces Covenant, have worked in an Assistant Director role at the UK’s MOD, and am known personally to every Veterans’ Affairs Minister to have taken the post. I also work in the delivery of UK Veterans’ Affairs policy and have advised many organisations on how better to engage with Veterans.
